Dental Bridges
Missing teeth can cause your bite to be out of line. Even the slightest change in your bite can affect your oral health and can eventually lead to jaw joint disorders. A single missing tooth even affects the appearance of your other teeth by causing them to shift over time. Missing teeth also decreases your chewing abilities. A dental bridge is one way of replacing one or more missing teeth.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is made of porcelain and sometimes metal but consists of three or more dental crowns that are fused together. The dental bridge attaches to the healthy teeth that are on either side of the missing tooth. As a result, the middle portion of the dental bridge takes the place of the missing tooth. The dental bridge essentially bridges the gap between teeth. In the end, you are left with a complete smile that you can be proud of and a natural, comfortable bite.
Can a dental bridge replace my dentures?
In some cases, yes! If you are unhappy with your dentures, consider a dental bridge with implants. Sometimes, denture wearers complain of ill-fitting dentures that are not only uncomfortable but loose fitting, which causes embarrassment. In which case, we can construct an entire mouth bridge that attaches to multiple dental implants in the jawbone.
The dental implants will function like your teeth’s roots once did. The implant will stick above the gum, leaving just enough of the implant for a dental bridge to attach. The dental bridge will be permanently attached to the implants, leaving you with a confident smile and no more embarrassing, loose-fitting dentures.
How do I care for my dental bridge?
As with any dental treatment, it is especially important to maintain proper oral hygiene following the placement of a dental bridge. Dr. Lippi advises regular brushing and flossing, as well as routine checkups and dental cleanings. These measures not only help maintain good oral health but also help prolong the life of your dental bridge.
